The Academic Senate voted unanimously to adopt the Consent Calendar items. OLD BUSINESS A. Approval of Faculty to sit on Committees Anwar Hijaz motioned to approve Faculty to sit on Committees. Erica Vogel seconded. The Academic Senate voted unanimously to approve Faculty to sit on Committees. Board Policies/Administrative Regulations AR 4020 Curriculum and Program Development (Instructional Program Review) - program review was removed from this AR since it is not required here; Credit hour reporting was updated to match what is required by the state. Jonathan Luque motioned to approve the changes to AR 4020. Alan Foote seconded. The Academic Senate voted unanimously to approve the changes to AR 4020. BP 4020 Curriculum- only minor changes AR 4105 Distance Education- changes have come down from the state; the DE Committees from both colleges as well as the VPIs have vetted this already; Kim dArcy clarified that the changes in red are following the new Title 5 language; course modality definitions were added in blue. Alan Foote motioned to approve the changes to AR 4105. Maria Mayenzet seconded. The Academic Senate voted unanimously to approve the changes to AR 4105. Teresa Bear asked for clarification/update on the Pass/No Pass policy. Dan Walsh confirmed that the deadline for students to select pass/no pass is the last day of the semester (when finals week is over). Scott Fredrickson asked for clarification of the official drop date for a course. The official last time to drop date is at 75% of the course. That exact date will depend on the course start date and duration. Jonathan Luque inquired as to whether there was a way for grades submitted early as letter grades to be changed automatically in the system if a student elects Pass/No Pass at the last minute. Essentially, the letter grade would flip to a Pass/No Pass based on the letter grade awarded. Senators expressed interest in looking into this as a possible solution. Curriculum Update Michelle Duffy shared that the 2024-2025 list of courses for Scheduled Review is available on the Curriculum Committee SharePoint under Courses. The launch deadline for scheduled/unscheduled review of courses and any approved new courses (not seeking UC approval) in META is April 30, 2023. This is also the deadline for the submission of all required elements for new and revised programs. Please contact Michelle Duffy or Kim Stankovich for help. You may also attend a workshop to help you complete your curriculum revisions and review. The curriculum co-chairs are hosting these training sessions so faculty can drop in at their convenience for in-person help. The remaining training sessions, held in the Faculty Center, are on the following dates: 4/11 1:30-2:30pm, 4/18 2-3pm, and 4/24 1:30-2:30pm. In addition, faculty can visit the ASCCC website to provide feedback on AB 1111 regarding common course numbering and stay informed on implementation of AB 928 regarding CalGETC taking effect fall 2025. IDEAA Report and Showcase: LoFI (Ladies of Film and Media Industry) Maria Mayenzet shared that LoFI was founded four years ago and the LoFI Festival Highlights from March 2023 were shown to senators. Legislation Update None. Representational Areas Dan Walsh shared an updated PowerPoint including the max of 5 per division/school. If we went with the max 5 at 1 per 6 formula, we would end up with 28 senators which is very close to our current 29 senators. He walked senators through other breakdowns of representation. Discussion ensued. Several senators voiced support over 1 per 8. Deidre Cavazzi motioned in support of the 1 per 8 formula with no maximum number of senators per area and a minimum of 1 per area. Taylor Brooks seconded. The Academic Senate voted unanimously in support of the 1 per 8 formula with no maximum number of senators per area and a minimum of 1 per area. NEW BUSINESS A. Guided Pathways Work Plan Jonathan Luque updated senators on the GP Workplan which replaces the annual scale of adoption assessment. A workgroup has been assembled and are working on completing a draft by May 1. If you would like to join the workgroup or share recommendations contact Jonathan. Academic Senate Mission & Values Statement Efren Rangel commended faculty all of the work that has been done about equity throughout this fall (equity focused interview questions, faculty dashboard, district implicit bias training, neurodiversity training, etc). In addition, the Director of Equity, Inclusion and Access was also just posted. Update: The Multi-Cultural Center is still being worked on and the Puente Program is making traction. She also shared that copies are available of Understanding Academic Freedom by Henry Reichman. Faculty Professional Development Committee One Sheet Heidi Ochoa shared the Faculty Professional Development Committee One Sheet which replaces the ITL committee. In addition, a solicitation for a Teaching Innovations Coordinator went out a couple weeks ago and that individual will chair this committee. Does this committee decide how much money faculty get for professional development? Dan Walsh commented that the Faculty Development Funding Committee makes that decision, not this committee. COMMITTEE REPORTS Executive None. College/Senate Committees Dan Walsh reported out about the Study Abroad program. Currently our procedures do not match policy, but they are being worked on.
